European blackout avoided?

Yesterday, Saturday night, millions of Europeans in 8 countries were without electricity, as a result of a power problem in Germany. The cause may have been a transmission line over the river Ems that was switched of to let a cruise ship pass, subsequently overloading other parts of the network, according to grid operator E.On. A spokesperson from the French transmission system operator RTE commented that "we weren't very far from a European blackout".

Bid to overhaul Europe power grid

Energy demand has been rising in Europe as winter nears Italy's prime minister has said Europe needs a central power authority to prevent the kind of blackouts that left swathes of West Europe without energy. An overload in Germany's power network triggered outages leaving millions without electricity on Saturday night. Romano Prodi said there was a "contradiction" in having a unified power network but no central authority. Power failed first in Cologne, Germany, before shutting down across parts of France, Italy, Spain and Austria. Belgium, the Netherlands and Croatia were also affected. "My first impression is that there is a contradiction between having European networks but not having a central European authority. It is somewhat absurd," Mr Prodi said. Transmission failure German utility provider E.ON said early investigations suggested the supply failures were caused by overloads in the power network in northwest of the country, according to Reuters. The power outages were quickly restored in most cases but in some of the worst cases: In Paris, firefighters responded to nearly 40 calls from people stuck in lifts as the city lost power Scores of trains were delayed in Germany's industrial Ruhr region for up to two hours The Italian regions of Piedmont, Liguria and Puglia lost energy overnight between 2100 and 2200 GMT In Spain, power was lost in the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza and parts of the Andalucia region. European blackout risk E.ON said the power failures may have been linked to a line across a river being switched off to allow a ship to pass through safely, Reuters reported. France was one of the worst affected, with five million losing power mainly in the east of the country and the capital, Paris, and its suburbs. "We weren't very far from a European blackout," a senior director with French power company RTE said. Most electricity supplies were restored within two hours of the outage, and so far no injuries or accidents have been reported. The worst recent power blackout struck Italy in 2003, plunging the country into darkness for 18 hours between 28 and 29 September.

اتحادیه اروپا سیاست واحد انرژی را خواستار شد

به دنبال خاموشی‌های گسترده روز شنبه در غرب اروپا، "آندره پیبالگز" کمیسر انرژی اتحادیه اروپا، روز دوشنبه از کشورهای عضو این اتحادیه خواست سیاست‌های یکسانی را در بخش انرژی اعمال کنند.
به گزارش ایرنا به نقل از خبرگزاری فرانسه از بروکسل، پیبالگز در بیانیه‌ای اعلام کرد: این حوادث باردیگر بر ضرورت استفاده از سیاست انرژی واحد در سطح اروپا صحه گذاشت و نشان داد وقوع هر اتفاقی در هر قسمت از اروپا، بر سایر قسمت‌ها تاثیر می‌گذارد.
سرمای هوا و افزایش مصرف برق در روز شنبه، موجب خاموشی در بخش‌هایی از آلمان، فرانسه و ایتالیا شد.
به گفته وی، بهتر است به جای استفاده از رویکردهای متفاوت ‪ ۲۷‬عضو اتحادیه اروپا، در چارچوب یک دیدگاه مشترک اروپایی، امنیت انرژی را تامین کرد.

خاموشی گسترده در اروپا

قطعی برق در چند کشور اروپایی میلیون‌ها خانه در غرب این قاره را در تاریکی فرو برده است. به گزارش «بی.بی.سی» و به نقل از سایت بازتاب، شرکت‌های برق گفتند که قطع برق در آلمان، در پی جهش شدید تقاضا که ناشی از سرمای هواست شروع شد و بعد به سایر بخش‌های اروپا سرایت کرد. در حدود پنج میلیون نفر در فرانسه برق ندارند که عمدتا شرق این کشور و بخش‌هایی از پاریس را در بر می‌گیرد. یک مدیر ارشد شرکت برق فرانسوی «RTA» گفت: «فاصله زیادی با قطع سراسری برق نداشتیم». «پی یر بورنارد» به خبرگزاری فرانسه گفت: دو خط انتقال ولتاژ بالا در آلمان از کار افتاده است که باعث ایجاد مشکل در سراسر اروپای غربی شده است. سیستم‌های اتوماتیک امنیتی توزیع برق برای پرهیز از خاموشی کامل، برق برخی از مشتریان را قطع کردند. ایتالیا، بلژیک و اسپانیا نیز از قطع برق در امان نماندند. برق بخش اعظم بخش‌هایی که متاثر شده بودند بعد از دو ساعت وصل شد و تاکنون هیچ حادثه‌ای در اثر قطعی برق گزارش نشده است. مراکز آتش‌نشانی در فرانسه گفتند که به چندین درخواست از سوی کسانی که در آسانسورها گیر کرده بودند پاسخ داده‌اند. رفت‌وآمد در خطوط سریع‌السیر آهن نیز مختل شد. زمان درج خبر :   14 آبان 1385 / 13:41
